Former pastor’s church is on fire, says pastor, another church in the woods

An elderly pastor in a small church in northeastern North Carolina has died from smoke inhalation, leaving another church still burning.

The fire was reported Tuesday morning.

It was not immediately clear how the fire began.

The congregation, located in the community of St. Andrew’s, is about 100 miles northwest of Asheville.

It’s located in an area with some of the highest concentration of churches in the state, according to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
